Thesis in the field of ESP (English for Specific Purposes). The relationship between the English teacher preparation at ULA - Táchira, and the professional practice in teaching ESP at the universities and colleges in San Cristóbal city. I wanted to find out if the University of Los Andes (ULA) was preparing the English teachers according to the needs of the market or job placement. I designed two questionnaires to collect the data, and the results showed that the majority of our ESP teachers did not have the formal preparation to work in the field, and that a big amount of English teachers (90%) prepared at ULA-Táchira expressed that they did not get enough knowledge to develop properly in their profession. I would like the authorities of the University of Los Andes - Táchira to take into account these results to improve the syllabus and to offer a better formation to our future English teachers. I know that they did some changes in their syllabus in 1994, but they are still missing some important and necessary subjects in the program of English teacher Education.
